Be A Delegate / Run the WI

There a lots of opportunities to take part in running and moulding the future of the WI, both in Shadforth and nationally.

Help Organise Shadforth WI

As with each level of the WI, Shadforth WI is run by a committee of elected members.  Roles on the committee can be very rewarding and can be undertaken by any member.  They are essential to the running and planning for the group.  Each institute needs at least a President, Secretary and Treasurer to continue.  The committee usually meets once a month.  Elections for committee members take place at the AGM and any member can stand and/or vote.

There is training on offer to help learn new skills for the role you would like to take on.  You can develop useful and highly transferable skills, whether speaking at a WI Meeting, chairing a local or county committee, working as a WI Adviser, or through one of the many other roles within the WI locally and nationally!

Be a Delegate

As well as taking part at national level, every WI member can have the chance to represent their WI.

At the DCFWIs AGM and Autumn Council Meeting a delegate from Shadforth WI attends and reports back to Shadforth WI.

As well as taking part at county level, every WI member can represent their WI nationally by attending the National AGM.  With over 5000 other WI members, this can be an exciting event.  The AGM rotates its venue, for example between Cardiff (the Cardiff International Arena), London (the Royal Albert Hall), Liverpool and Leeds.  The National AGM has had such speakers as The Queen (a WI member) at the WI's 75th anniversary AGM in 1990, and Tony Blair at the Triennial General Meeting at Wembley Arena in 2000.
